Excellent essay! I relate to so much of what you lay out here. I agree that ego does not need destroyed, but it needs to be put in its place and indeed is meant to be a tool to helping us discover our true self. Thanks for sharing your journey, insights and wisdom. Many blessings.

I loved how you described ego as the little devil. This talk of keeping it separate made me realise that there's no need to try and force my ego to change, but to accept who it is, but decline its advice when I see it being detrimental to my life.

I never thought of myself being separate from my ego.

Thank you, Mo.

Appreciate that insight, Eren! Realizing the ego isn’t us but just a part of us is huge.

My experience has confirmed what you’ve said here, Mo. The greatest growth I’ve seen in my life came after learning to observe the ego at play, then witnessing its habits and my own emotion when it’s at work. This has allowed me to become much more of my authentic self and has set me free from damaging behaviors that once defined me.

I didn't realize that the ego was what caused one to feel inferior or superior. interesting.

so you're saying the ego exists for us to overcome it? like our ego is Ganesha? Putting obstacles in our way so we can overcome them.

That's a great insight! Yes, you could think of the ego like Ganesha, placing challenges in our path not to hinder us but to help us grow. By becoming aware of it, we get the chance to overcome it and find a deeper sense of who we are.

Thank you, Mo. I love your post. I always thought that my ego was a whimsical tyrannical 5 year old who didn’t suffer to be opposed or wrong. I always say that a frustrated ego means a fulfilled true self. But I so agree with you, our ego, though not always easy to tame, is a great tool to discover our true self. I had never seen it that way, so thank you again, Mo, for that perspective. Lots of love.
