As someone who's never without a book (well, Kindle these days), I agree with everything you said Mo. I can finish a fiction book within a week ... but I find most non-fiction books usually take me a bit longer. Too much thinking, taking notes, etc. 😂

Hello Lou, Yes, it's the same with me these days. I can't finish a nonfiction book easily. I think with all the social media, podcasts, etc, I've maxed out on nonfiction. But I still love to read literary fiction.

Excellent points that you make! Reading on Substack in the morning - and choosing what I read carefully - has replaced my Facebook scrolling or email answering and it’s a much better place to start the day!

'...locking us into a robotic, linear lifestyle enslaved by technology and an instant gratification mindset.'

When it comes to reduced reading among people, I think it's mainly due to the instant gratification mindset brought upon by such technology and social media.

And it's incredibly unfortunate how it's made us less patient and have less appreciation for reading books.

Mo, I rarely read anymore, but you are tempting me. I appreciate how you approached the benefits of reading from so many different angles and love the idea of your morning "deep reading" especially.
