I'm only just becoming familiar with David Whyte's work, I love the imagery he evokes- an ethereal sense of familiar people- good friends over a lifetime. Thank you 🙏

Great text! Although unfortunately it made me realise that I don't think I've experienced true friendship yet. A slice of life still, God willing, before me, so who knows .... I just wonder if such 100% forgiveness is even possible? There is always something left in the memory that affects the subsequent relationship. Some kind of injury that causes me to step back so I don't get burned again.

I think such forgiveness should be seen as a goal, a destination rather than an absolute!

Forgiveness is not only possible Grzesiek, I believe it's essential for our well-being & spiritual growth. Learning to forgive ourselves first, that's the hardest part but also the key 🙏

You're absolutely right! Once we extend that compassion inward, it becomes so much easier to share it outward.

This is so beautiful. I have two lifelong friends and the lines about forgiveness and learning how to be better really ring true. We are witnesses for each other, our support systems, and hold each other accountable to be our best selves

David’s thoughts about friendship have been important watchwords for me for several years. The importance of “witness” makes it all click into place.

The witness part has always been the big insight I took away from David's words.
