I had a chance to review this book!

We write books and some books write us.

The Midlife Shift is a book that connects ego and soul. Life is a poem that dances between the two and this book is a bridge that is passable in both directions.

I first came across the writing of Mo approximately 10 years ago at the Elephant Journal. In a beautiful piece on Zorba the Greek his writing inspired me to set my own words free, Zorba style, filling the flesh of words with soul. As a multicultural Canadian with Greek and Celtic roots I shared a sense of not belonging to any one place. My passport was not my identity. Through Mo’s previous writing and his first book The Shift, I opened myself up to my own creativity. Through my own writing, I learned to belong.

A voracious reader of self-help, Mo shows us that the true path to authenticity is through a door to the inside. For no amount of self-help can make up for a lack of self-love. This book is a love story. Through Mo’s journey the reader is invited into their own. Mo shows us that the work for a better life is a spiritual practice. He shares that the work for a better end is always in the here and now. That very sense of presence is tattooed on our essence.

Success leaves clues. Reading Mo’s own journey fills one with the sense that we are spirits having a human experience. That experience is full of failures. These failures become lessons on our way through. These detours become our own odyssey and return us to a place bigger than a self.

Mo Issa is a gift and his words lean in to the wine of life. Mo’s journey is a spiritual unfolding of self, where he meets his own soul walking along his path, standing beside him, and right in front of him. Open this book up, and drink slowly. Through Mo’s lessons you will reflect on your own. You may even meet your own soul on the way.
