I RAN (and still run)A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS when I was 40 years old, but something was missing. I had a drawer of Rolex watches to choose from, but I wasn’t happy. I wasn’t satisfied.

I loved aspects of my life — my family, my work — but the markers of success that used to be enough began to feel hollow. More money, more possessions, more of anything wasn’t the answer.

I embarked on a journey of self-discovery where I reconsidered my values and readjusted how I measure happiness and satisfaction. In the process, I have:

  1. Written two books, The ‘Shift' explores personal growth concepts like authenticity, vulnerability and the ego. ‘The Dense Mistiness of the Ordinary' is a poetry collection focusing on my everyday experiences and feelings during my transformation.

  2. I’ve just finished writing a memoir, The Midlife Shift, which was published in November 2024.

  3. Reached over 500k people through essays I have shared on Daily Graphic(Ghana’s Foremost daily newspaper), Elephant Journal and Rebelle Society.

  4. Read 50 books per year (for the past ten years).

  5. Spoke regularly at conferences and workshops, including TEDx Accra, Africa Dialogues, and Africa HR Leaders Conference.

  6. Launched a new initiative in 2016, The Authenticity Project, which celebrates people fearlessly pursuing their passion by assisting them with a cash prize and a mentorship program.

While I haven’t found all the answers, I do feel alive again.

This feeling of being alive transforms you, and whether you know it or not, you have started changing the world.

I rise early, read, and journal my reflections on how to feel more alive, discover more meaning, and live with contentment as one matures through midlife. Some of my reflections make it to my blog; others don't.
